Yoga teachers often ask me (and plenty of "soon to be" yoga teachers who attend my Business of Yoga classes) "what do you charge for an in-home private yoga session?" It seems like it should be a simple answer. In my mind, there is a lot more to it than most think. So I'm going to put it out there... As for my in-home private yoga rate where I travel to the client (which means I am managing the commute/traffic/rolling out the door for 6am client on a cold winter morning/etc.), I generally … [Read more...]
Business of Yoga (part 5): Rest to Reset
As a small business owner (aka full-time traveling yoga teacher), I’m often asked “How are you able to take vacation?” Or sometimes it sounds like “Won’t your office yoga /corporate yoga clients find another instructor?” and “Aren’t you worried your private yoga clients will be upset?” A huge part of the Business of Yoga is taking care of you! Honestly, I’m always baffled by these types of question Part of a yoga teacher’s job is to help people feel better. Better is a simple term for … [Read more...]
Going Solo – Yoga in NYC
Train-bound to NYC solo to practice yoga with my teacher Sri Dharma Mittra. Beyond grateful whenever I can head up for a day to be in his presence with one of my yoga sisters. Today though it's just me heading up. My dear friend's daughter was sick all night so she had to cancel in the middle of the night. Funny thing is I had a "feeling" last night before heading to bed that for some random reason my friend wouldn't be able to go today. Admittedly it crossed my mind last night to cancel … [Read more...]
The Business of Yoga (part 4)
The Business of Yoga (part 4) is all about the importance of networking. Face-to-face connections in today’s social media/texting world seem to often get pushed to the side. It’s far easier to hide behind a computer screen and promote yourself vs. physically … [Read more...]

Honestly, I'm always baffled by this type of question Part of a yoga teacher's job is to help people feel better. The Business of Yoga (part 3)
Part of the fun of being a small business owner is every single day is different. And as much as I am in control of my own schedule, sometimes I'm just not. Running a business forces you to learn how to literally "go with the flow." For instance, this morning I had a private yoga client cancel which opened up time for me to blog. After this, I'll head into Washington, DC (in the pouring rain) and teach a corporate yoga class. I love what I do. I also love that on Fridays my day is done by … [Read more...]
