As a small business owner (aka full-time traveling yoga teacher), I’m often asked “How are you able to take vacation?” Or sometimes it sounds like “Won’t your office yoga /corporate yoga clients find another instructor?” and “Aren’t you worried your private yoga clients will be upset?” A huge part of the Business of Yoga is taking care of you! Honestly, I’m always baffled by these types of question Part of a yoga teacher’s job is to help people feel better. Better is a simple term for … [Read more...]
Office Yoga – It’s My Thing!
Last week I was grateful to teach a series of office yoga sessions for a huge global real estate company with several DC locations as part of their employee health & wellness program. After spending three days in a row in Bethesda, MD (Tues), Washington, DC (Wed) and McLean, VA (Thurs) teaching the benefits of yogic breathing and movement (yoga asana) in conference rooms, I realized a few things: Yoga is accessible to everyone, anywhere, anytime. Regardless of whether the company fully sponsors the office yoga classes or the individual employees partially or fully pay, the participation isn't as great as many think. The former (where the company pays 100% for office yoga) is the biggest mind blower for me...free yoga in … [Read more...]
The Business of Yoga (part 4)
The Business of Yoga (part 4) is all about the importance of networking. As I explained to the Flow Yoga Center yoga teacher trainees yesterday in Washington, DC, word-of-mouth continues to be an essential key to locking in private and corporate yoga clients since starting abellaYoga nearly eight years ago. Face-to-face connections in today’s social media/texting world seem to often get pushed to the side. It’s far easier to hide behind a computer screen and promote yourself vs. physically … [Read more...]
